The Ceramic Publications Company (CPC), a subsidiary of The American Ceramic Society, publishes Ceramics Monthly (CM)and Pottery Making Illustrated (PMI) magazines, the Ceramic Arts Daily website, publishes books and DVDs, and operates the Potters Council membership organization. Our mission is to serve the informational, educational, and professional needs of the ceramic arts community. We provide members and subscribers with the periodicals listed above, as well as books and videos, workshops, meetings and expositions, an online community, and many other benefits.

To begin employment with an immediate start date, we are seeking a Production Artist to provide production support for the magazines, books, and DVD programs. This is a full-time position located in our Westerville, Ohio office.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Degree required, preferably in graphic design or visual communication design. Minimum of 3 years office experience required. Previous experience with magazine or book production required.
Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with the following: Macintosh platform, MS Office products, and Adobe Creative Suite—especially InDesign and Photoshop. Experience with database programs and content management systems is preferred.
Demonstrated ability, via portfolio examples and skills assessment to edit images: color correction, outlining, and general cleanup.
Demonstrated ability, via portfolio examples and skills assessment, to create layouts in InDesign using editorial and graphics provided by an editorial staff/ creative director.
Proven organization and time management skills, ability to multitask, attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Self-starter with ability to work without close supervision.
Familiarity with or knowledge of studio ceramic art would be helpful but is not required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as primary point person for production tasks and as primary liaison with print vendor for all technical issues, scheduling, and updates regarding magazine production for CM and PMI.
Lay out content for magazine departments (Exposure, Recipes, Tips and Tools, and Spotlight) in CM for each issue (PMI design work is handled separately). Create house ads for all CPC departments, and conference materials for Potters Council.
Assess quality of images and edit as required for articles in each issue of CM and PMI for print and tablet magazines.
Perform final adjustments to layouts sent by designer for CM and PMI.
Coordinate with advertising staff to flight check new ads for each issue for both magazine publications.
Manage issue document construction and advertising and editorial placement for both CM and PMI and special issues, and prepare pages for editorial and advertising review
Prepare and upload CM and PMI magazine and books files to press. Prepare magazine and books files for digital editions.
