New Bill Would Give Earners More Power over Income Tax Reciprocity Credits
It was introduced in early October by Reps. Bill Roemer and Heidi Workman
Taxes are inevitable, whether you're coming or going. Many Ohioans' earned income is taxed both where they live and work.
To avoid "double-dipping," taxing residents twice on the same income, many municipalities offer reciprocal tax credits, which offset some or all of the income taxes their residents must pay to the places where they work.
But in several of Northeast Ohio’s most populated cities, those credits don't fully cover the residential income tax rate, if at all. And more municipalities are now choosing to reduce or eliminate the credits entirely, state lawmakers said.
