Trump's National Guard, Marine Response Expected to Cost $134 Million

A defense official shared the cost with the media

The U.S. military deployments that President Donald Trump has directed in response to unrest in Los Angeles are expected to cost $134 million for 60 days of operations, a senior defense official said at a hearing Tuesday.

The Trump administration's deployment of 700 Marines and 4,000 National Guard soldiers was intended to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during their operations, amid clashes between protesters and law enforcement in downtown Los Angeles, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at the same hearing.

As California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) said he was sending 800 additional state and local law enforcement officers to the region, the L.A. protests appeared to quiet overnight Monday, but demonstrations have started growing in Austin, New York, San Francisco and elsewhere.
