After Key Vote, White House Urges Republicans to Back its Budget Bill
Trump will personally try to keep the House GOP conference united
The White House pushed Monday for Republicans to support President Donald Trump’s massive tax and immigration package, which narrowly passed the House Budget Committee late Sunday.
"The 'One Big Beautiful Bill' is perfectly named because it represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver on the Make America Great Again agenda, responsible for President Trump’s landslide victory on Nov. 5," said press secretary Karoline Leavitt at a press briefing Monday morning, referring to the name of the legislation.
Leavitt suggested Republicans who oppose the bill would be siding with Democrats — and raising taxes on Americans. The massive tax and immigration bill is central to Trump's agenda; hesitance from some members of his party represents a sizable early test for his administration. Members of his party's far-right flank remain concerned that the bill would balloon annual budget deficits.
