Here are six common misperceptions about what psychological safety means

For nearly 20 years of coaching leaders, I’ve been preaching the same message: Leadership, whether you accept it or not, is a matter of the heart.

Sure, you have to have the "head" part down as well to thrive in a leadership role. But while casting a vision, planning the strategy, and driving for results is certainly crucial for running a business, the best leaders balance all the head stuff that come with results by combining it with relationships—great relationships. That's the heart... and the hard stuff.

To assess where you stand in your leadership journey requires some honest self-analysis, because the bar of good leadership is set pretty high. One “heart” question anyone in a leadership role should ask is: Do people at work feel psychologically safe?
