Canadians on Monday head to the polls to vote in a federal election in the shadow of President Donald Trump’s trade war and annexation threats, with long-standing concerns about the cost-of-living still top of mind.

The vote comes after a roller-coaster period in Canadian politics.

In January, facing a revolt within the party ranks, Justin Trudeau stepped down as Liberal leader and prime minister. Soon after his resignation, the Liberals picked former central banker Mark Carney, a political rookie, to replace him.
