Artificial intelligence (AI) is a computer system that can perform tasks that historically only a human could do—problem-solving, reasoning, or making decisions, for example. Over time, AI has evolved to a point where many workers are using Large Language Models (LLMs), a type of generative AI, for summarizing or generating usable content in a variety of workplace environments.

A recent multidisciplinary study published by MIT showed that highly skilled employees who were trained in generative AI could boost productivity by as much as 40 percent using that technology. The productivity level falls by more than 20 percent if the work being done consists of tasks at which the AI is not good. Productivity can drop as much as another 15 percent when workers are not applying their knowledge to the content that the AI is producing.
