Buckeye State Tree Nursery Opens

It aims to protect forests across Ohio

The first seeds were planted in the new Buckeye State Tree Nursery in Muskingum County on Monday. The nursery is the first nursery of its kind in the state and aims to protect and replenish forests.

According to a release from Governor Mike DeWine's office, the nursery helps to address regional shortages of suitable tree seedlings and assists with tree conservation projects. It's located on the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry property in Zanesville.

DeWine and ODNR director Mary Mertz were at the site Monday to plant the nursery's first seeds.
