How Google's AI Model Could Help Businesses Create Better Ads

Small-business owners can now use a chatbot to make more effective ad content

Google wants to make creating your own ad campaigns as easy as having a quick chat.

Buying ads in Google search results can be an important way for your business to get noticed--if not a necessary way to show up online for customers actively searching for your company--and Google says it's just made the process easier. The search giant recently incorporated a chatbot powered by its Gemini artificial intelligence model, which works across speech, text, videos, images, and code, into its system for creating search ads. When Gemini was introduced last December, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai called it "our most capable and general model yet."

Google, which accounts for about 90 percent of search traffic in the U.S., according to Similarweb, began piloting features to help businesses automatically generate ads last year. Now that system is available to all users in the U.S. and U.K. and has been upgraded to run on Gemini. A company can input its URL, and Google's ad system will suggest images, headlines, links, and relevant keywords. A chatbot similar to ChatGPT or Google's Bard allows the user to "talk" through the ad-creation process, ask questions, or request a redo if they don't like the initial output. The system can also generate unique images based on a company's existing logos and images.
