Survey Highlights the No. 2 Reason Remote Workers Won't Go Back to the Office

Let's talk about something almost nobody likes to discuss

Let's talk about something almost nobody likes to talk about. Let's talk about bathrooms at work. We all have these stories, right?

  • I used to work in a government building in a big city where the bathrooms were open to the general public. These were some nasty bathrooms; sadly, the general public behaved the way you'd expect them to behave.
  • At another job, I worked with a guy we'll call John. (Pun intended.) He was a good employee, but all it took was one time for the boss to make a joke about how "John's a big bathroom guy" for him to become self-conscious about how often he had to go. Eventually, he left the company.
  • Oh, and I once worked for a small company where the single gender-neutral bathroom was right off the main open office. It had almost no noise insulation; you could hear everything! Eventually, a co-worker figured out how to loosen the grate on the overhead fan. It made a racket, but at least it covered up most of the other noises.

Gosh, I write these down like this, and I wonder: How are people supposed to work like this? We're all human; we all have to go. Why do workplaces sometimes make it so hard?
