AIA Calls on Congress to Repeal the Research and Development Tax Amortization

The organization also is urging the government to reach a deal to avoid shutdown

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is calling on Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to expeditiously pass a funding deal to avoid a government shutdown.

Congress should also repeal the harmful Research and Development Tax amortization provision and make it retroactive to cover tax year 2022 to ensure that the tax code continues to support innovation. Architecture firms throughout the U.S. conduct R&D to remain competitive and to offer solutions to help solve issues like helping make buildings more resilient to our changing climate. If the amortization provision is not repealed, architecture firms of all sizes face a dramatic impact on their tax liability and their bottom line that will ultimately limit their ability to grow and hire talent.

Architects and the entire built economy need the federal government to function efficiently, establish consistent and clear tax policy, as well as fund the critical governmental programs that affect our members.
