DeWine Signs Bill Letting Companies Charge Ohioans Millions for New Gas Pipelines

The bill was signed Dec. 23, 2023

Natural gas companies could soon charge Ohio customers tens of millions of dollars more per year to build pipelines to potential mega-project sites under legislation signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine on Dec. 28, 2023.

DeWine's signature on House Bill 201 marks an about-face from earlier this year, when he used his line-item veto authority to strip out a similar proposal from the state’s massive two-year budget plan.

HB 201, a Republican-sponsored bill that passed the legislature in near party-line votes, was originally written to prohibit the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) or local governments in the state from restricting the sale of gasoline-powered cars in order to promote the use of electric vehicles.
