To Be Happier, More Successful at Work, Steal This Twitter Co-Founder's No-homework Rule

This is a lesson for employees and their bosses

These days, Twitter (now rebranded X by new owner Elon Musk) may be slowly sinking under the accumulated weight of controversy and erratic management. But the company's long-ago exited co-founders are doing just fine.

Biz Stone, for instance, went on to help found Medium and Jelly and became an investor and philanthropist (as well as a critic of contemporary Twitter). In his book and on Medium, Stone dispenses wisdom learned from his years as an entrepreneur, and he recently wrote a post that both business owners and overworked high school students will love. His essential advice even comes with an appealing name -- the no-homework rule.

This rule, Stone explained, started out as just what you might imagine. In high school, Stone was captain of the lacrosse team while also working after school at a supermarket to contribute to the family's finances. He quickly discovered that completing all the homework he was assigned meant staying up to 3 a.m. every night and being perpetually exhausted.
