The U.S. still knows nothing about the condition of American hostages

The U.S. continues to believe that a handful of Americans were taken hostage by Hamas but there is nothing known about the conditions of the captives, a U.S. official tells CNN. 

The administration’s ongoing efforts to ascertain information about those American hostages remain very much in the “same place,” the official said, and consultation with partners in the region continues.

The U.S. also continues to operate under the assumption that these hostages may not be gathered in one place, the official added.
