Coronavirus Tracker: Lung Association to Donate Masks to Slow the Spread of COVID-19

July 27, 2020

Current updates on association response to the global COVID-19 crisis, along with a roundup of conference, travel and business news and information.

American Lung Association to Donate Masks to Under-served Communities
The American Lung Association (ALA) has launched the “Buy 2, Give 2 Masks” campaign to provide face coverings to the public to decrease the spread of COVID-19. For every two masks purchased, the American Lung Association will donate two masks to those in need, particularly in communities of color.

The ALA says each mask is reusable, washable and made in the United States out of 100 percent two-ply cotton. The association says it is focusing on communities of color because of the “systemic inequities that cause COVID-19 to disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minorities.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some groups experience systemic health and social inequities that put them at increased risk of getting COVID-19 and experiencing severe illness.
