Safe Commuting Strategies
For workers who may be returning to their workplaces in the near future, one question that will need answering is how to get there.

In a new report, the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) has recommendations for how employers, commuters, and communities can work together to get workers back to their physical workspaces safely and efficiently.

ACT notes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that workers use forms of transportation that minimize contact with others, but in a news release the association argues that simply providing parking subsidies so that people can drive their own cars to work is unrealistic. Instead, the guide [PDF] recommends strategies that support safe travel using a range of commuting options, including public transit, parking, carpools, vanpool and shuttles, along with continued telework. ACT also recommends that employers continue to offer fringe benefits for commuting, and a way home in case of an emergency.

“We hope that this report can serve as a valuable resource to help commuters feel safe in the mode they choose,” ACT Executive Director David Strauss said.
