Destination Cleveland Spearheads New Undefeated Campaign

The campaign aims to boost restaurants and the hospitality industry

Destination Cleveland launched a three-phase, summer-long campaign Wednesday designed to help get the region’s tourism economy back on its feet. Dubbed “Undefeated,” the campaign first asks businesses – including restaurants, hotels and attractions -- to embrace new standards of cleanliness and then encourages residents to patronize and publicize those establishments.

“We need to be community-focused and start with residents before we invite visitors back,” said Destination Cleveland CEO David Gilbert. If all goes well, the tourism bureau plans to start marketing the region to travelers again in August. “It doesn’t make sense for us to spend our dollars asking people to come here if they aren’t ready."

This effort to get them ready is the result of a collaboration among Destination Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, the city of Cleveland and the city’s three primary health-care providers, the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and MetroHealth. Representatives from all six organizations took part in an online press conference Wednesday.
