AAA Predicts Record Low Traffic this Memorial Day Weekend

Most Ohioans are expected to stay near home this year

The American Automobile Association (AAA)  says travel over the Memorial Day weekend could set a record low because of the continued effect of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Last year, AAA said more than 1.6 million Ohioans traveled 50 miles or more for the holiday.

This year it will be "much, much different," the organization said. For the first time in 20 years, AAA will not issue a travel forecast for Memorial Day, because the data wouldn't be accurate due too the pandemic.

Even though a gallon of gasoline costs as much as it did in 2003, when it dropped below $2 per gallon, travel is still expected to be lower than in years past, especially with social distancing and other restrictions in place.
