Five Ideals For The Modern Enterprise

How bestselling author Gene Kim defines them

Gene Kim is a researcher and an author who has been studying high performing IT organizations for over two decades. His latest book is The Unicorn Project: a novel about developers, digital disruption, and thriving in the age of data, and it is the much-anticipated follow-up to his widely read book, The Phoenix Project: A Novel about IT, DevOps, and Helping Your Business Win, which has sold nearly 500 thousand copies.

Both of these books are fictional stories, and as Kim notes regarding the former, “This is a story about rebel developers and business leaders working together, racing against time to innovate, survive, and thrive in a time of unprecedented uncertainty…and opportunity.” The book highlights five ideals:

  1. Locality and Simplicity
  2. Focus, Flow and Joy
  3. Improvement of Daily Work
  4. Psychological Safety
  5. Customer Focus.
