American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc.

The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT) is the world's largest technical society for nondestructive testing (NDT) professionals. ASNT seeks a proven leader with at least ten years of relevant leadership experience in a nonprofit membership association or for-profit enterprise of $10 million or more in annual revenues.

Business Acumen: Applicants must have strong financial and business acumen, with a focus on how data and innovation can drive both market share as well as financial performance. Successful candidates will have a proven record in driving revenue and diversifying said streams. The qualified candidate will possess strong organizational skills, as well as an excellent understanding of business and financial issues, including how to manage a substantial fund balance with prudence and mission effectiveness. Candidates will have expertise and/or deep understanding of structures working in a volunteer or member-driven organization

Board Relations and Development: Applicants should have experience working with an active board of directors, as well as a solid working knowledge of appropriate board governance, board development, and engagement strategies.

External Relations and Communication: Successful candidates will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and will have exercised them creatively for purposes of marketing, negotiations and/or increased membership. This person must exhibit success in collaborating with and convening diverse stakeholders in a collegial, transparent and highly participatory manner. He or she must be a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills and be comfortable serving as both the staff leader and the face of the organization.

Team Building and Staff Development: The next ED will have the opportunity to nurture a positive, inclusive internal culture. Candidates will learn and understand new NDT methods and challenges and embrace technology to improve communication with members on a worldwide scale.

Personal Qualities: Along with transparency and integrity, the next ED will demonstrate personal attributes of strategic problem-solving, proactive approaches, diplomacy and persuasion, emotional intelligence, humbleness and nimbleness.

Direct experience in nondestructive testing is not required, though general knowledge of the testing or engineering industries would be advantageous. A Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. An MBA or related post-graduate degree is desired, but not required, as is certification as a Certified Association Executive (CAE) or Project Management Professional (PMP).
