Position Summary:
The School Employee Retirees of Ohio (SERO) is currently seeking a forward-thinking and team-oriented executive director who has the vision to lead our organization and grow our membership.
The executive director is responsible for the overall management and direction of the association, including the supervision of office staff. The ideal candidate will have the ability to creatively advance the directives of a member based organization:. Legislative and regulatory experience is a plus.
Founded in 1978, SERO is a nonprofit private organization representing non-certified school personnel who are contributing to or retired from the School Employees Retirement System of Ohio. (SERS)
Responsibilities:
In this role, the executive director will:
- Keep the executive board and staff fully informed on association related issues.
- Actively engage and energize the SERO membership, staff and board members.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with related retiree organizations.
- Assist the board in developing strategic plans and provide recommendations to assist in the achievement of strategic goals.
- Communicate the importance of SERO to both school employees and retirees.
- Provide direction in addressing pending or future legislative issues impacting SERO.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management or a similarly relevant field with a leadership role in a non-profit environment preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to self-balance multiple priorities and delegate as necessary.
- General knowledge of pension and retirement issues.
- Experience with membership development/strategies and large event planning and execution.
- Finance and accounting experience.
- Marketing and brand management experience.
- Working knowledge of IT, new media technologies, web content management systems, email marketing and social media.
