Nonprofit Impact
Midsized nonprofits have felt much of the pain from the COVID-19 crisis, according to a new survey from Independent Sector.
In its just-released report, the nonprofit organizing body found that 83 percent of those groups experienced a decline in revenue, leading 71 percent to offer a reduction in services or operations. Nearly half (47 percent) have experienced some form of employment reduction, with the most common types being furloughs (67 percent) and layoffs (51 percent).
The driving factors behind the revenue decline are a mixture of decreases in earned revenue (83 percent), individual giving (53 percent), and philanthropic grants (33 percent). Much of the lost revenue, per the survey, was a result of canceled events.
