Today is Global Meetings Industry Day

Meeting industry leaders are joining together today for an international day of advocacy

The Meetings Mean Business Coalition and leaders from across the meetings industry are joining together today for “Global Meetings Industry Day,” an international day of advocacy highlighting the economic value of meetings and conventions.

Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) was created in 2016 to enhance the profile of the meetings industry and last year involved meeting professionals, associations, corporations, destinations, elected officials and business leaders in dozens of events held throughout North America, Latin America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. This year, more than 160 events are being held spanning six continents.

“GMID reveals the true convening power of our industry and connects the work we do every day to the long-term impact we have for businesses and economies around the world,” said Paul Van Deventer, president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International and co-chair of Meetings Mean Business.

GMID participants this year are touting new research from Oxford Economics, which affirms that in a single year – and despite a continual rise in virtual communication options – face-to-face meetings and events support 5.9 million jobs and $845 billion in economic impact in the U.S.
