Facebook Stops Third-party Data Providers From Targeting Ads on Its Platform

This is just one more step the company is taking to protect its users

In the next few weeks, Facebook is to propose updates to its terms of service and to its data policy as part of moves to "improve privacy" that also include taking away the ability for third-party data providers, like Experian, to offer their targeting directly to advertisers on Facebook.

The company is shutting down Partner Categories, which enables the likes of credit information players Experian and Acxiom, to sell their targeting directly on Facebook to advertisers. It does not stop advertisers purchasing data from these companies separately.

"While this is common industry practice, we believe this step, winding down over the next six months, will help improve people’s privacy on Facebook," the company announced.
