The Reading Recovery Council of North America, Inc. (RRCNA) is a not-for-profit association of reading recovery professionals, advocates, and partners. The council provides a network of opportunities for leadership and professional development and is an advocate for reading recovery throughout North America. Membership is open to anyone interested in reading recovery and early literacy.

Assistant Event Coordinator:  Are you adept at simultaneously handling multiple assignments? Are you able to wear many hats and ensure all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently? Fantastic, that is exactly what RRCNA is seeking! Your skills will be appreciated, as they rely on you to be a proactive program specialist.

In this dynamic role, you will assist the director and manager by supporting all aspects of conference and professional development planning. This includes registration, speakers, hotel room block management, customer service, website, social media, committees, promotions, communications and other logistics. In addition, they will rely on you to support the organization and efficiency of the department and provide administrative support to the director.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates planning and implementation of conferences, events, and professional development.
  • Registration: develops, maintains, trouble-shoots data system. Ensures a smooth operation for
    registrants, facilitates payment process, accountability for financial accuracy and reporting from
    preliminary planning through post-conference wrap-up. Acquires and maintains the necessary
    technological knowledge
  • Speakers: prepares confirmation letters and other communications, hotel and travel arrangements, and follow-up
  • Hotel room block management: utilizes vendor systems to monitor and manipulate hotel reservation blocks, produce on-going updates and final reports
  • Conference logistics: handles a variety of logistical needs associated with conference planning such as, but not limited to, special needs, handouts, facilitators, signs, working with vendors, etc.
  • Conference website and social media: prepares content for posting and posts according to department approval and organizational policy
  • Communications and customer service: communicates in a clear and responsive manner with staff,
    members, registrants, vendors and others
  • Promotions: seeks sources and makes contacts with a variety of stakeholders; drafts copy for printed and emailed promotions
  • Committees: participates in planning meetings, writes minutes, and conducts follow-up
  • Historical files and organization: retains and updates historical files; maintains work room
    organization, and makes preparations for in-house meetings
  • Problem-solving: identifies and works proactively with other staff to address issues
  • Administrative and clerical services: provides assistance as needed
  • Provides administrative back-up staffing for the executive assistant and membership assistant and other duties as assigned
  • Supports the department and the organization

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • High proficiency in computer skills
  • Superior organizational, written and verbal communications skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects with efficiency and accuracy
