Research Foundation Executive Director
Ohio Chamber of Commerce
The ultimate responsibility of this position is to ensure the Foundation accomplishes its goals and objectives. The Foundation was formed in November 2015 and now has tax-exemption as a 501(c)(3) organization with the IRS. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to provide studies and education on key public policy issues that may impact Ohio’s economy and job creation. The Foundation’s research and education activities will help ensure Ohio’s long-term competitiveness.
This position reports to the Board of Directors of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce Research Foundation, Inc., which is a supporting organization of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. The position is an employee of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce under a shared services agreement.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Establishing a process for considering specific research proposals, including working with the staff of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the Board of the Foundation to identify key research priorities
- Deciding how research will be funded and helping to manage the internal budgeting, including soliciting grants or other funding for each research project and the Foundation in general
- Hiring consulting and/or internal research staff to complete projects identified through the above processes
- Leading and adhering to all policies, goals and other activities as required by the Board of the Foundation
- Overseeing communication internally and externally to ensure the Foundation’s message is clear and accurate, and consistent with the mission of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce
Qualifications include:
- College degree or equivalent non-profit experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and computer skills
- Knowledge of Ohio politics and government
- Familiarity with research methodology from inception of idea to completion and delivery of the final product
- Experience with grant writing and/or fundraising
- Personal commitment to the free enterprise system
