(Leadership Track)
Speakers:  Shane Yates, CAE, CMP, Ohio Physical Therapy Association; Chris Zimmer, Association of Residential Cleaning Services International

Baseball great Yogi Berra was once quoted as saying, “It’s amazing what you can see when you look.” He also said, “Ignorance isn’t what you don’t know- it’s what you know wrong.” Understanding and assessing an organization’s board culture is helpful in identifying areas for growth opportunity- or identification of things we know wrong. A board self-assessment can engage its members in discussion about their effectiveness and culture and assist in improved governance of an organization. However, some board members may see it as some kind of “test” to be passed or as a challenge to their wisdom, experience or integrity resulting in resistance to participation. This session will engage participants in conversations about how to strengthen board performance through assessment and ultimately, the performance of the organization they govern.

How Would You Describe Your Online Reputation
(Leadership Track)

Speaker:  Barry Himmel, Signature Worldwide

96.5% of all people are influenced by online reviews of products and services by others. How are you measuring up?  Do you have advocates?  Detractors?  Or is no one talking about you at all?

Strategically improving your online reputation is an important step to growing your membership.  Your potential members are making decisions about your association based on what others are saying – and how you are responding. What are the major do’s and don’ts?

Whether or not you are aware, you already have a social media voice. Is it pleasant and inviting?  High pitched and annoying?  Merely a whisper? Learn to define the voice you want, and understand the importance of sharing that definition with your employees and members.  Do you realize that anyone who writes on your behalf is contributing (or detracting) from your online reputation.  Is everyone presenting your association online the way you want to be perceived?

Many elements go into successfully planning and selling your association's meetings, conferences, events and tradeshows to members, exhibitors, and other partners. You've crafted a relevant and appealing program, provided ample opportunities for colleagues to interact, and found meaningful ways for industry suppliers to showcase their products and services.

But the location is vital, too: The destination can be a deciding factor for many members who likely have lots of enticing continuing-education options but limited time and money to take advantage of them. Destination marketing is especially important for meetings. So, how do you get members and other stakeholders excited about meeting? Associations have increasingly turned to their host hotels, convention center facilities and CVB Partners, which offer a wide array of innovative destination marketing tools, and resources.

Through this panel discussion, you will learn how to effectively work with your hospitality industry partners for access to the resources and tools available in successful meeting planning.
